Imperialism!

Imperialism is basically one country taking over another for motives such as economic, religion, or political. Great Britain was one of the biggest players in imperialism. During the scramble for Africa, many wars, such as the Boer War, broke out due to imperialism. And even though according to the white mans burden the mother country would prvoide education and more food and money, the natives were treated brutally and unfairly. The biggest motive for Imperialism was economic. Great Britain took over major stops in trade routes because they knew they could collect money there. The Opium War with China was also based completely economically. Another motive was religion. Missionaries traveled to many different countries to try and spread christianity. Political was also a motive. The Fact they you could expand your empire was valued, but also mainly for economic reasons.

napoleon.

Summary - Napoleon Bonaparte was a powerful force in Europe from 1799 to 1815. He rose from the ranks of the French army to become the emperor of France. By 1812 he had control of most of Europe. Unfortunately, he met his demise when he attempted to invade Russia. His downfall was almost as swift as his rise to power.

Napoleon was a very forceful leader. He had very high ambitions and expectations. He wanted everything his way and didnt usually wait around for others to give it to him. Though he had the best in mind for france, some of his decisions lead them to big problems. He did lead them out of money problems for a while, and he did keep the people involved with the government, but when he went power hungry with trying to control all of europe and more, it actually cause more problems, such as losing an army and sending France back to where they were before the revolution.

french revolution

Summary - The French Revolution is defined as the political upheaval of world importance that began in France in 1789. Inspired by the success of the American Revolution, French citizens overthrew the noble, ruling class and establish a democratic government. The French monarchy under Louis XVI was viewed as oppressive and corrupt and the social structure was rigid, meaning it did not allow for social mobility which eventually forced the people to demand change.

One of the main reasons that the french revolted against King Louis XVI was because of the money problems. There was a huge money crisis in France and the third estate especially, was effected by it. Because they didnt have alot of money to begin with, the way the taxes kept raising strongly effected their daily life. Another reason was there lack of participation in government. The enlightenment philosophers influenced the revolution because they stated and set up what a good government should consist of. The Decleration of the Rights of Man set up the rights every man should get. I think the french revolution was somewhat a success because it did set france up for a new government and a constitution. But it also lead to future problems.

enlightenment.

Summary - The Enlightenment was a philosophical movement of the 18Th century characterized by belief in the power of human reason and questioning authority. Many enlightenment philosophers like John Locke, Voltaire, and Rousseau published their ideas on government.

The philosophers of the enlightenment majorly influenced and changed government. They introduced ideas of new forms of government such as democracy. With that, came the idea of freedom of speech and having a say in government. I think that the most influential enlightenment philosopher was Baron de Montesqieu because he came up with the idea of separation of powers, which we still use in our government today. His ideas lasted making him a very important part of building government.
